Club Captain's Announcements
Announcements 11th August 2017
The August medal last weekend was won with a very good 65 from Mark Watts in division one and Paul Harris topped the field with an impressive 68 in division two. The fourball draw on Sunday was won with 85 points in a closely contested competition but the team of Sean Nugent, John Bottoms and Graham Evans took the money. Well done everyone mentioned above and thank you to all who participated as they could not win if we were not there to lose.
I spent a wonderful afternoon with my family celebrating my mother’s 90 Birthday with Sunday Lunch, great value for such a fantastic setting. The other David not the captain Morris was also in the restaurant for lunch and would you believe his mother has also turned 90 in the previous week. Thank you very much to the catering staff for looking after us so well my mother was rather overcome by all the attention.
Now the Away trip has been paid for by the Club and I only have a couple of people to collect money from. The trip is fully subscribed and I am looking forward to fierce competition over the two rounds. More details will follow once all payments are collected. Keep an eye on the notice board in the George Low.
This Sunday is the Gentlemen’s invitation to the Lady members and there are still tee slots available if you would like to play.
The August Bank Holiday Scramble and Wilson Putting vase competition poster will be up by the weekend so please start to form your team and enter on the start sheet again on the notice board in the GLB. This is open to all and can be single sex teams or mixed the choice is yours or hers. This will be a shotgun start at 9am with the putting vase contest taking place a little later, on the putting green, outside the Clubhouse. Entry to the Golf for the day, a very reasonable £5 per person, to go towards your prizes.
Captain’s Splash fund is coming round to all for sponsorship if you want to see me jump into the Captain’s pond then we need to have at least £300 pledged. All golf balls found as part of this exercise will not be returned to owners.
I am sure that like me you will be sad to see that Adam has left his Assistant Bar Manager duties with the Club in order to further his career with a larger Hotel chain. We wish you well Adam and thank you for the 5 years of dignified and exemplary service you gave to all members.
Susie Dench has just recently completed her tandem Sky Dive in aid of Leukaemia care and has in so doing raised £1200 for the Charity, this is a marvellous achievement and if like me you pledged money for her efforts then now is the time to cough up. There is picture evidence available if required and knowing her I wonder how long it took to sort her hair out afterwards.! ( NO- I will not consider jumping from an aircraft into the Pond but I might do it in tandem.)
Captain’s tip- join the 200 club it needs you !. Be at the Club on Thursday evening for the Draw At 7.30 if you want a chance of winning £400 on your Bar card.
Captain 268 David
