Bush Hill Park

Captains Announcement's 6th October 2021

Firstly, a huge congratulations to our senior superstars who competed at the prestigious Woodhall Spa Seniors event last week.

For those who don’t know, Woodhall Spa is not only the home of England Golf, but also has the Hotchkin course – a real challenge tackled only by the finest players.

A number of Bush Hill Park players entered and I’m really proud to report that Barry Clarke and Denis Pyatt came home as the winners out of a field of 70 pairs. Well done!

Great Performances also by other teams coming in 3rd and 9th.

This year’s Autumn Kruger Sovereign was won in style by Kevin Prime with 43 points. A birdie on the 5th always helps! Another strong performance by the hotly in-form Denis Pyatt saw him finish second. Shame about the blob on 18….

Last weekend saw the Final Medal contested, with Nick Sharp emerging victorious by one shot from the chasing pack. A net 74 was enough to secure it for Nick.

The final Scratch medal was won by Ethan Cameron with a gross score of 76. Although he started with a 5 it was followed by 7 straight pars. Well played.

In the extra medal Robert Clegg scored a highly impressive net 64. This was despite opening with a 6…! Well done for sticking with it and following with an impressive 7 pars…

Sunday was the first 4 ball draw of my captaincy and things did not exactly start well. A number of key players (including a number of senior club bigwigs) were locked out by gates which failed to open, regardless of club rank.. Yours truly had also naively failed to pre-book the coffee. Anyway, despite the early challenges the golf was great and we had several teams coming close. In the end it was the newly relaxed immediate past captain Iain Lanario and John Mather who managed a super 46 points. They were hotly pursued on countback by Tony Williamson & John Bottoms as well as Jonny Hayes & John Crisford. It goes to show that every point counts – especially on the back 9!

This coming weekend we can look forward to the first round of the winter league. Autumn has come around quickly but we always seem to have a few nice weeks before winter really sets in.

Look out for fireworks night on Sunday 7th November– we are hoping to have some warming food and a bit of Live Acoustic Guitar Music from a legendary Sixties relic. I may even strum along on a couple of songs…

in other news my plans for an extravagant awayday next year have been modified slightly. I’m currently looking for a more cost-effective venue. The Belfry looked lovely but the cost of playing on such a famous course coupled with potential costs of drinks and extras has made the cost a bit excessive for my intention to include as many as possible. New destination to be revealed shortly (at half the price hopefully…)

And finally, don’t forget to challenge me and Danny in the captain & pro challenge. The next couple of weeks are tied up but contact Danny for future dates. There should be some memorable matches…

Happy Golfing!

Ted
