Greens Renovation Update

I am pleased to say that we have now completed the Greens renovation period and that they have been a huge success on this occasion.

The weather has been on our side and has given us some amazingly quick recovery and germination from our over-seeding.

The greens were hollow cored with 15mm tines, over-seeded with an ultra-fine rye grass seed and top dressed with approximately 35tonnes of sand.

The sand was brushed in on Wednesday but 37.5mm of rain was the main component to helping us get some great recovery from the works.

The greens have since been treated with a fungicide and had a turf hardener mix applied via our sprayer.

I am aware of some comments regarding the over-seeding that we have done and would like to take this opportunity to explain the reasoning behind it.

Our greens are on the whole in a good condition but do have very shallow roots, this has caused us to lose some turf coverage over the very hot and dry summer we have had. The turf coverage was lost due the heat and a turf disease called anthracnose which can attack turf under stress.

I made the decision to apply a ultra-fine rye to these areas as it is more resilient to disease and drought and will survive better than Poa Annua which is our main species of grass.

The over-seeding has been a massive success again mainly thanks to the rainfall we had after the renovations. You will have noticed the strong tufts on the green, this is the initial growth spurt you get from seed as it is coated in a chemical to help it germinate quickly. It does and has started to calm down and we now have some grass growing in what was bare areas prior to the renovations and a species of grass more tolerant to disease and drought.

These works have created thousands of channels in the greens for air, water and roots to move deeper into the rootzone and will help us start to improve the root depth on the greens and get them preforming better in the future.

I would like to thank you on Behalf of my team and for your patience and understanding throughout the renovations period.

Damien
