Course Manager's Blog: Current ground conditionss, 6th February 2026

Following recent heavy rainfall, ground conditions across the course remain extremely wet, with widespread surface water present across a number of fairways and low-lying areas.

The photographs and drone footage below were taken today and clearly show the extent of the saturation, with standing water visible well away from usual problem spots.

While some areas may appear green and intact, the underlying ground remains extremely soft, with water sitting at or just below the surface.

Allowing play in these conditions would lead to significant turf damage through compaction, rutting, and surface disruption. This type of damage can take many months to recover from and would have a lasting impact on playing quality moving into the spring.

At this time of year, protecting the course has to take priority over short-term access. Closing the course now helps preserve turf health and ensures better conditions as soon as the ground begins to dry.

The course will remain closed on Saturday, 7th February. Conditions will continue to be monitored, with a further update provided on Sunday morning following another inspection.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
