Let’s be honest and say that playing in these conditions is not that much fun but we still remain disappointed when the course is closed as even for the most optimistic player, the next round was never going to be the best round of the year. Being on the course with friends and good company is what’s missed most!

Standing water across the course is attracting the wildlife in droves but a reminder to please NOT feed the geese or foxes (as has been witnessed) if walking the course or if we get out playing.

If we do get the course open, fairway mats are compulsory when on the course. If in a qualifying round, they are to be used on fairways only. If a friendly, practice round or a few holes - the mats can be used everywhere including tees and rough, but not greens. Practice swings should be over the mats also. This is simply with the aim of protecting the course as much as possible during these conditions.

A reminder that the summer competitions will be available to enter from this week for both singles and pairs competitions on IG, so find your partners. Your must have and maintain five qualifying rounds at the start and throughout the duration of the competition or you face disqualification even in the later rounds. This will be a player self-monitoring system and if the matches are played to a result, there is no appeal against the result of that match on these grounds (i.e. if you find out later your opponent hasn’t got five qualifying rounds in).

The next Quiz Evening is the 27th February. It’s teams of eight and you can sign up with less numbers and all endeavours will be made to join up with others to make a team. This is the second of the three winter evening events, with prizes for winners and last place! Dining is included so sign up to test your knowledge and have an enjoyable evening.

Finally, the annual St Patrick's event has been arranged for Friday 13th March with traditional Irish food and music. Booking for tables or evening only is on IG so come along and make it an occasion to remember.

Hopefully the course will improve for the next week and some golf can be played.
