Captain's Announcement's 14th October 2021

Please excuse my slightly reduced blog content this week. I was fortunate enough to catch the last sun of late summer in Croatia last weekend before autumn really sets in. My time has also been limited by going back to college this week for the first time in nearly 40 years, so my brain is currently spinning with Genomic Medicine technicalities….

Anyway, enough of my excuses… This past weekend saw the first week of the Winter League. As I know from past experience, you really need to get your good scores in before the Winter really takes hold.  I can see that Tony Williamson has certainly got off to a flying start with a brilliant 44 points. Well done Tony! Good luck getting the next 5 good scores over the next few weeks…..

Nobody else managed over 40 points but well played to Christopher Watson with 39 points and the ever-consistent Jim Craggs with 38 points. I look forward to seeing a few more good scores this weekend to narrow the gap.

We still have a few weeks before the hour changes, but with shortening daylight, tee-times are likely to become oversubscribed so we will be introducing some changes soon to try to ensure we get as many players round in the time available.

As we are now playing stableford, I urge you all to keep the pace up and remember to pick up on holes once you know you can’t score.

Don’t forget Danny and I are looking to take on as many challengers over the year as possible, so please get in touch with Danny if you fancy your chances. We are unbeaten so far!

In my last Blog I mentioned a possible fireworks event on Sunday 7th Nov. That is now looking less likely due to a misunderstanding on dates. I’m still hoping we can have a fun evening before we get into Christmas season and will keep you posted of new plans.

And finally watch out for the Middlesex finals being played on our course this Sunday. We have to “take our turn” for these events which help to raise the profile of the club, but realise it may inconvenience a few of you this Sunday.

Let’s hope we can have a few more good sunny and dry golfing days before the winter sets in. Enjoy your golf!

Ted
