Women's Captain's Announcements

We received some very sad news this week. Marie Hollingworth, who was a member of the club for many years, died on Sunday morning. Many of us will remember Marie as a real character. She was always willing to play with me and others when we were new and clueless and was very happy to pass on her golfing knowledge. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, 24th May at 12pm at Lady of Mount Carmel & St George R.C. Church followed by a reception at the Golf Club from 1.30pm.

I wasn’t around for the Pro’s Prize on Wednesday but I’ve been told that the weather became quite challenging as the morning progressed, although you would never know this, looking at the scores.

The winner of Division 1 with 42 points was Cela, 2nd with 39 points was Sharon and 3rd with 38 points was Lisa. The winner of Division 2 was Mary with 42 points, 2nd was Wendy with 37 points and 3rd was Mandy with 37 points. Great scores again! Full results are on IG.

Sunday was a busy day for our section with the 5 a side team at home against Enfield and the May Swindle both being played. The 5 a side team had a spectacular win 3-2 against players with much lower handicaps. As these matches are played off scratch, this was a great victory. Well done to Lesley and team.

The Swindle also revealed some up and coming stars of the future with Alex winning with 22 points, Linda 2nd with 18 points and Lak 3rd with 15 points all playing off a 36 handicap – fabulous scores! Well done to everyone who played, I really hope that I can make the next one. Sounds as if it was a fun afternoon.

Coming up we have the Victory Cup/May Medal on the 18th and the Daily Mail Foursomes on the 25th. Booking is now open for these on IG. Booking for the Coronation Foursomes will open on the 18th. Please sign up in your pairs.

Please look out for notices regarding upcoming events. The Captain’s Charity Day is on 2nd June. Teams of 4, best 2 scores to count. There are also club events on the Friday and Sunday of the Queen’s Jubilee holiday.

Don’t forget, Nicola is holding group lessons on Fridays at 4pm, £10 per session. Please contact her direct on 07887 765765 to book.

As I mentioned earlier, I was away for this week’s comp, this was because Lesley, Tracey and I were visiting Dave and Irene Dickinson at their new-ish home in Somerset and playing in their new club’s Spring Women’s Open. Luckily, Irene had booked us in for a 1.30 tee time because as we sat, eating our breakfasts, the rain was pouring, the wind was blowing and the sky was grey. It didn’t look any better as we were tucking into our bacon rolls BUT, as we approached the tee, the rain ceased and, although it was still pretty blowy, we certainly had an advantage over the morning’s competitors. We managed to capitalise on our luck and romped home with 93 points – 8 better than our closest opponents!

Have a great weekend.
