Bush Hill Park

Women's Captain Announcement's 2nd February 2023

I had the pleasure of attending the Burns night on Saturday which was a most enjoyable evening indeed. Mark and I were piped in to the room by a marvellous Scottish piper (well he was wearing a kilt) and I have to say that if I was being attacked by the Scots with bagpipes I would certainly have run for the hills. The noise when you are near is quite deafening indeed. The meal was held downstairs due to the restaurant renovations and was really excellent.

So finally after about six weeks we managed to get to play 18 holes on Wednesday. The course seems to have dried out quite well over the last few days although still wet and boggy in places. It was also lovely to see our two resident swans back on the 13th lake, albeit surrounded by what appears to be an ever increasing number of Canadian geese. Well done to Helen Gilbert with a credible 32 points closely followed by Lucy and Roz with 29 points.

Next week is the first of our matchplay games and then we have a number of stableford games in March. Please remember that if you wish to enter any of the knockout/board competitions that you must have five up-to-date qualifying cards before the closing date of the competition, which is usually around the end of March/beginning of April. Anyone who doesn’t normally play on a Wednesday can do the competitions on a Sunday and all you need to do is to contact Lisa Martin who will set it up for you. Just a reminder that supplementary cards are not the same as a competition card, although both count for handicap purposes. It would be good to see as many entrants in the competitions as possible this coming year.

You should all have received the golfing diary for the coming year but if you haven’t then please contact Michelle who can send you out one. A couple of slight amendments are the Bisque Salver which is a board competition but will be played in 3’s this year as we will all be going off the 1st. If you haven’t played this before then I would suggest you try and play with an existing member who has as it is quite a unique competition. Similarly with the Flag competition on March 8. Also you will need to find a partner for the Iris Sumner competition. My playing diary should be going up in the next few weeks so please do add your name to any on there as it would be good to play with as many members as possible this coming year.

Looking forward to seeing you all next week.

Happy golfing.
Tracey
