The sun has finally got it’s hat on today for the Australian Spoons competition - about time too. Congratulations to Kathy Kerr (lovely to see you back with us on a Wednesday) and Sue Nugent (yet another win for Sue!) with 31 points on count back from Wendy and Sue Evans. Kathy and Sue will go through to the next round, although I’m not too sure of the venue yet.
Last Sunday our 5 aside team of Lucy, Lesley, Sue Collins, Lisa and Cela were victorious against Northwood at home 3-2, so many congratulations to the team. Obviously a very hard fought match with Cela losing on 18th.
This weekend Sarah R and Alison are playing their 2nd round of the Middlesex Foursomes this Sunday against Finchley at Muswell Hill, and Lisa and Umar have their 2nd round match on 13 May against Enfield, at Hampstead so good luck to both teams.
I am pleased to report that our Make your Mark competition held a few weeks ago raised £90 for the Golf Foundation which is a charity supporting young golfers from all backgrounds. Additionally we raised £45 for the current Captains’ Charity, The North London Hospice, from our winter eclectic. The winner (to be announced at the Spring Meeting on Wednesday) will receive a small prize. The summer eclectic is now open and you can enter this on IG by selecting upcoming competitions or via the main website under competitions. The cost is £5 and will take place from the Spring Meeting on Wednesday 10 May to the Autumn Meeting on Wednesday 20 September. Sign up closes on 9 May. Again, the proceeds go towards the charity with a small prize for 1st and 2nd place. An eclectic competition calculates a player’s best score on each hole over the selected competitions which is a great way of keeping track on how you have played each hole over the summer period. It’s amazing to see what your handicap could be … if only.
Next week is our Spring Meeting with a medal round in the morning followed by team event in the afternoon and an evening meal. Hopefully the weather stays warmer and dry.
For those not invited to the Abbey on Saturday I hope you all enjoy the coronation celebrations whatever you are planning and for those in the Coronation event at the club on Sunday I shall see you then.
Happy golfing.
