Women's Captain Announcement's 18th May 2023

This week we held the Ping 4BBB and I’m sure you’ve all seen many pink Ping umbrellas and pink and black ping golf towels hanging from trolleys from past winners and runners up. The top 52 pairs from the club qualifiers go on to a National Final at Thonock Park in September but
regardless the first two pairs receive a prize from Ping. Last year’s winners Hazel and Mary had an amazing 52 points and went on to represent BHP at the National Final so here’s hoping that our winners this week, Lucy and Sarah R with 40 points, are lucky enough to go through.
Runners up were myself and Helen Savage with 38 points. It was a delight to partner Helen who played some amazing golf and I’m sure will see her handicap come down pretty soon on yesterday’s performance.

Next week is a really heavy golf week for some. On Sunday the 5 aside team are playing away at Highgate so good luck to them. The Pearson team is in action on Monday, away to Ealing and also on Thursday away to Northwood, this is a re-arranged match due to the snow. Best of luck to everyone playing in these matches. On Wednesday we have the Victory cup with a brave eight playing all 36 holes so here’s hoping for some lovely weather. There is an alternative medal for those only wishing to do one round on either Sunday 21 May or the Wednesday. Thursday 25 May is the first of the social golf session, which Ruth is organising, and I believe starts at about 3pm in the afternoon with 13 holes followed by lasagne (or similar) afterwards. This is a great way of meeting new members for our newer members and is not a qualifying competition, so much more relaxed.

Tomorrow night there is the coronation quiz organised by Sally Minks one of our newer members in aid of the Captains’ charity so swot up on your kings and queens for those going.

On Wednesday 7 June we have the centenary salver which is followed by a meal. This year I have decided to have this as a lunch as I know it’s difficult for some to go home and return for an evening meal. The sign up and menu etc will be up in the locker room next week so do please sign up. This is also open to past women members and anyone who wishes to come to the lunch but not playing in the competition. The Centenary salver is a board competition so you must have 5 competition cards with a maximum handicap index of 38.4 to be eligible to play. There is an alternative medal competition for those that aren’t eligible but hopefully you will join us for lunch as well.

I also have a plug for a mixed seniors event at Highgate on Friday 7 July. Teams to comprise of 2 women over 50 and two men over 55. Best 2 of 4 scores to count. Bacon rolls on arrival with two course lunch and wine. There are a whole host of prizes and the cost for a team of four is £160. Apparently Highgate have been attempting to put on this event for the past few years and it seems excellent value indeed.

Dare I say that perhaps summer is finally on the way and I must say the course is looking very lovely at the moment.

Happy golfing.
Tracey
