Women's Captain Announcement's 24th May 2023

What a glorious golfing day for our 36 hole Victory Cup and the alternative medal. The course looked amazing and dare I say there was a bit of run on the ball and the greens have definitely quickened up, even from the morning round to the afternoon round for those of us who played in the Victory cup. Congratulations to Lucy who won with a nett 145 for both rounds but closely followed by Lisa with nett 146. I have to say two rounds is always a challenge but in such lovely weather and company (my partner Sarah R) it was very enjoyable.

Update on our matches from earlier this week; Lucy was again in action for Middlesex against Hertfordshire in a pairs comp and although Middlesex lost to Hertfordshire Lucy and her partner managed to win the only match for Middlesex, so she’s obviously in fine form! Sadly the 5 aside lost on Sunday away to Highgate 5-0, which is unsurprising as they fielded a team of mostly single figure handicaps and as it was off scratch the odds were definitely stacked against us. Our Pearson team on Monday, however, managed to win away to Ealing which is a tough course and amongst the fastest greens I’ve played on. This leaves only one match remaining on Thursday 25 away to Northwood. My thanks to everyone playing in the match at Northwood which comes on top of a really heavy golfing week but unfortunately was a re-arranged match from the bad weather earlier on in the year.

As we are getting towards a really busy time with all the knockout competitions please remember that if you are holding players up behind you, particularly if they are in a match, to let them play through.

Just to keep you updated with Margaret Reynolds who is one of our past playing members who sadly had a nasty fall last week and broke her pelvis/pubic bone. Unfortunately she is currently still in North Middlesex and in significant pain apparently. We send her our love and good wishes for a speedy recovery.

On Sunday there is an alternative stableford with the pro’s prize next Wednesday, also a stableford. The following Sunday is the alternative June medal with the Centenary Salver comp (also June medal) next Wednesday. This is followed by a lunch on Wednesday and the sign up sheet is now on the noticeboard in the locker room.

On the subject of the locker room Alison does a very good job in looking after it but can I please request that all bags are either put in the lockers or taken home. We seem to have two bags on the top of the lockers which seem to have taken up residency. With so many more players and the WDF groups using our lockers it is really important that we keep it as tidy and clear as possible to avoid any unnecessary accidents. If we could all do our bit it would be much appreciated.

Finally I hope everyone has a very enjoyable bank holiday whatever you are doing.

Happy Golfing
Tracey
