Captain's Announcement's 6th July 2021

This past weekend it was the July medal.

Once more the weather stayed fair & the course was in immaculate condition.

If you managed to play over the last week you cannot have failed to notice how good the greens were. Head Greenkeeper Graham Careford has managed to get a trial of a new machine that gets the greens smoother, flatter & yes, somewhat quicker, that take our already good greens to the next level. And by the look of the scoring over the weekend, a lot of members really enjoyed the way the greens played. There were some fantastic scores out there, not least from Rob Collett in Division 1 shooting a level par gross score 70 off of a handicap of 9 giving him a net 61. And Denis Pyatt in Division 2 with a gross 78 off of a 15 handicap giving him a net 63.

When speaking with Rob, his quote was “ The putts all went in.”

I’m guessing that our 2 winners this week will definitely be in favour of the club acquiring one of these machines on a permanent basis.

Fantastic golf gents !

Results:

Division 1.

1st Place Rob Collett Net 61.

2nd Place Jack Bidmead Net 66.

3rd Place James Chard Net 66.

Division 2.

1st Place Denis Pyatt Net 63.

2nd Place Andrew Corden Net 65.

3rd Place Brian McDermott Net 65.

On Sunday morning it was the July Men’s Fourball Draw.

Due to the odd number of players, we went out in 3 balls & played best 2 from 3 scores as a team event.

I had the extremely good fortune of being in a team with Neil Hurst & Tony (not Tone) Williamson. Neil was superb, with 3 birdies on the back 9 whilst Tony ( not Tone) was getting 4 point holes with ease. I helped.....a bit...honest.

Results:

1st Place. Neil Hurst, Tony Williamson, lain Lanario, 90 points.

2nd Place. Ted Rees, Edgar Ferguson, Kieth Hassan, 88 points.

3rd Place. Jack Shirley, Terence Collins, John Bottoms, 87 points.

Well done to all those who played. It was a very enjoyable way to spend a Sunday morning.

Hopefully Boris will have some good news & next month we can do a semi shotgun start. (Maybe).

Now that we have been using this fantastic new machine on our greens, it is even easier to spot the pitch marks !

Please repair your pitch mark & 1 other as you enter the green to help keep our course in great condition. Even if you haven’t made one, repair one anyway, it can only help.

This coming weekend, Saturday & Sunday is the July Stableford.

A date for your diary, Sunday 18th July at 1pm is the Gents invite to Ladies, mixed pairs Greensomes competition. More info on this will be coming out soon or speak with the Men's Vice Captain Ted Rees.

Play well

Iain.
