Cooler temperatures over the weekend saw scores in Winter league 5 somewhat drop off, however Iain Lanario and Dave Hall still managed to score 39 points and 38 points on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Now that the daylight hours are getting shorter, please remember that Winter League can be played either on Saturday or Sunday, so if you are having difficulty getting a Saturday tee time, it may be worthwhile thinking about playing on Sunday, where times are generally more available.
On Sunday, I played in my first Sunday Swindle (formerly known as “Clarkey’s Swindle”) and a big thanks goes out to Steve Clarke, who has been running and organising the event for over 20 years. The Swindle takes place every Sunday morning, other than the first Sunday of the month, when the 4 Ball draw takes precedence. It's open to all male members, regardless of age or ability and like the 4 ball draw, it is a great way to meet other members. The first tee off is around 8:30am and pre sign up is available on the website or IG App. I very much look forward to playing in another swindle in the not too distant future.
Finally, just a quick reminder about this year’s Captain Pro Challenge. The pair with the best winning margin against Danny and myself throughout the whole year, will win a day out for a re-match at Thorndon Park Golf Club next September. The challenge is open to men, women or mixed pairs, with a current Club Handicap, and will cost £5 per person plus a minimum £5 contribution to The Captain’s Charity. Pairs will be able to play and try the challenge more than once throughout the year, should they wish to do so. Danny has the diary of dates that we are available to play, so all you need to do is pop in to the Pro Shop and book.
Have a good week.
