Despite heavy rain being forecast for Thursday, the Beaujolais Day golf event went ahead as planned and was played in almost completely dry conditions, just proving that you can’t always rely on state of the art weather predictions! A great day was had by all and a special big thanks goes out to John Bottoms for organising the event in difficult circumstances and to Roy and the team who fed us with a superb French themed menu. Fifty competitors of all abilities took part and the eventual winners with 87 points were the team of Angela Graham, David Snell, John Moynihan and Neal Avent, who narrowly edged out on countback, myself, Mike Stainton, Martin Hacker and Bob Gyles.
Unfortunately we weren’t so lucky with the weather at the weekend, and heavy rain on Friday night and Saturday morning forced the course to be closed on Saturday. Luckily the rain eventually stopped and the course re-opened on Sunday, allowing Winter League 6 to commence. In all, 12 competitors took part with Gary Hampshire carding the best score of the day, with a very creditable 39 points earned in extremely difficult playing conditions.
Later this week, we will be attending the 2023 Club Awards in Leicester where Bush Hill Park Golf Club is nominated for Club of the Year - I will let you know how we got on next week.
Finally, just a quick reminder about this year’s Captain Pro Challenge. The pair with the best winning margin against Danny and myself throughout the whole year, will win a day out for a re-match at Thorndon Park Golf Club next September. The challenge is open to men, women or mixed pairs (with a current Club Handicap) and will cost £5 per person plus a minimum £5 contribution to The Captain’s Charity. Pairs will be able to play and try the challenge more than once throughout the year, should they wish to do so. Danny has the diary of dates that we are available to play, so all you need to do is pop in to the Pro Shop and book.
Have a Good week
