Women's Captain's Blog, 10th April 2024

The drier weather is holding and this week we played our Australian Spoons competition. Sixteen pairs took part in this foursomes event with the winning pair Sue Nugent and Angela Graham with 33 points. Runners-up, a mere two points behind with 31, were Helen Gilbert and Tracy Concadoro. 

I was delighted to see the new fountain up and running on the 13th this week - it looks fantastic. I am also delighted to see the Egyptian geese chicks thriving and enjoying the new water feature.

The second of our mixed events is this Sunday, the Spring Trophy. I hope the weather is kind and we have a great afternoon.

Next week’s Veterans’ Cup is open to women of 65 and over and there is an alternative Stableford for us youngsters. Entry is open on IG.

Nikki Chodurek and Umar Annaradnam are playing their first round of the Women’s Middlesex Foursomes at Finchley on Monday against Muswell Hill. Good luck.

FUTURE EVENTS

The Captain’s Charity Day is on Monday, 6th May. Details on how to enter and any further information can be found by clicking here.

The Women’s Invitation this year is on Wednesday 7th August. This is an opportunity to invite a guest(s) from other clubs to play in a team event followed by a buffet lunch with prizes and a raffle. The price is £47 per pair. I know it is a long way off but as you know golf diaries are booked up very quickly so this is an opportunity to ask friends now before it is too late.

Chris Robertson is kindly organising a Charity Bridge drive to raise money for the Isabel Hospice. This will be on Thursday 22nd August at 1:15pm for a 1:30pm start. Please support this and help raise money for a worthy cause. Cake makers will be required nearer the time and if you need more details please contact Chris.

Lastly, following the news of Damien Bowe’s departure I would like to say thank you. He has done a fantastic job during his time at the club in challenging conditions and I wish him every success for the future.
