The weather behaved for this week’s Bushguarders’ Cup/May Stableford. Some golfers were even spotted wearing shorts and polo shirts. Long may that continue.
The Bushguarders was formed in 1945 by members who had served in the home guard during the Second World War. Later, members who had served in the armed forces during the war were allowed to join and later still, those who had seen National Service. This is one of several trophies that fell into disuse due to falling numbers in the society and was presented to the Ladies section in 2013.
There were some good scores and the winner of the Bushguarders’ Cup, with a very impressive 37 points, was Lesley Avent. Runner-up was Amanda Lawson with 34 points.
The May Stableford Division 1 winner was Lesley and the runner-up was Helen Gilbert with 33 points and Division 2 winner was Amanda with Mary Kemal runner-up with 32. Well done everyone. And congratulations to Gaye Illsley, who has joined the women’s section this year from the Academy and played her first qualifying competition this week.
A BUSY WEEK AHEAD
Monday 6th May is the Captain’s Charity Day. A fantastic 24 teams have entered this year. Registration will be from 8am in the foyer. Please check-in and collect your cards from there. Una Kilgallon and Chris Robertson will be ready and waiting for you.
Raffle Tickets will also be for sale when you register. The cost is £5 per ticket so please bring cash with you on the day. The Raffle will be drawn while the golfers are playing and the prize-giving and Auction will take place once all the golfers are back in the Clubhouse.
The charity this year is the Isabel Hospice and we are supporting their Tonnes of Care campaign so if you want to have a clear out and have any unwanted clothing from t-shirts to designer coats, vintage vinyl albums to working mobile phones, bring them up to the club on Monday and the charity will collect our donations and sell to pay for the care and help local families need.
I am also delighted that we will have a representative from the charity to talk to us briefly about the Hospice and how the money we raise will help. I hope we have a very successful day and thank you in advance for all your support.
On Wednesday we officially begin the golf season with our Spring Meeting. There will be a morning medal round followed by an afternoon team competition. We have a meal afterwards so the list in the locker room will be taken down on Saturday 4th May to submit numbers for catering.
Thanks in advance to all the cake makers who have volunteered to provide some tasty treats at the hut on the day. For those teeing off in the morning from the 1st please stop after the 13th and those off the 8th to stop after the 2nd.
The Summer Eclectic entry closes on Tuesday 7th May just before the Spring Meeting so if you want to take part over the summer months please sign up on IG before the closing date.
And a reminder that when there is no competition on a Sunday, we have set up a roll-up (excluding Academy members).
We have three reserved tee times on the timesheet. If interested in playing just sign up and turn up.
Enjoy your Bank Holiday weekend.
