Despite the terrible weather conditions on Bank Holiday Monday, just short of 100 golfers teed off for my Charity Day.
Special thanks for making the day such a success goes out to so many people that worked and helped before and on the day.
These include my wife, Sue and Hannah Croton for working in the hut and supplying us with hot drinks and cake, the Women’s section who made all the delicious cakes, Christina Robertson and Una Kilgallon who managed registration and sorted the raffle, our Professional - Danny, who ran the Pro challenge on the 13th and also sorted all the results and prizes etc, Lance and Giovanni who entered eight guest team’s between them, Stewart, Debbie, Roy and all the staff who ensured the event ran smoothly, Guy Croton for being the celebrity auctioneer on the day and last and by no means least, our Women’s Captain Lucy Bidmead, who worked tirelessly on countless projects before and during the event.
From a results perspective, the winners on the day were the team consisting of Steve Ballinger, Ed Sobers, James Peters and Sam Weller with 85 points, edging out Sean Nugent, Guy Croton, John Neary and Matt Bowen on 79 points. Well done to the winners and to all those who played on the day.
Winners of the guest competition with 88 points was Dan Stripling, Chris Cowlin, Lance Stripling and Chuckle
Now for the Good News! Thanks to everyone’s efforts and generosity, I am delighted to announce that the Charity Day managed to raise around £6500.00 - a fantastic result for Isabel Hospice, and thanks again to everyone who took part and contributed. If you were unable to attend on the day, you are still able to donate on the Just giving page by clicking here.
On the domestic golfing front, the May Stableford was won by Nicholas Woolfe with 39 points and Simon Baker with 37 points in Division’s 1 and 2 respectively.
Apart from winning the fourball draw on Sunday where 17 players took part, Iain Lanario, Andy Henderson, and Paul Clark, also won a complimentary fourball at Braintree Golf Club, the proceeds of which will go to Isabel Hospice.
Last Tuesday, after a night of thunderstorm, heavy rain and howling winds, under the captaincy of Nick Balnave, The Rangers managed to play in almost perfect conditions with very strong team and had a resounding 4-0 away victory over the Friars from North Mid. Great hospitality was enjoyed and this is the reason we play seniors' golf.
This coming Saturday, we are contesting the Coronation Cup - a 36 hole, medal event with 27 competitor’s booked in. For those not wanting to walk 36 holes, there is an alternative stableford which can be booked in IG.
Have a good week.
