Unfortunately, the cutting back of the eco rough did not make an appreciable difference for many of us in Wednesday’s final Stableford of this year. But there were some good scores in, despite the early morning heavy frost, ice, frozen bunkers and rather chilly temperatures.

The winner of Division 1 by a clear margin was Sue Nugent with 38 points; second was Avril Green with 32 points on countback from Lucy Bidmead.

The winner of Division 2 was Chris Mann with 33 points; second was Gaye Illsley with 32 points.

Congratulations to all winners, and to all who played!

There were no two’s, which is perhaps not too surprising as the frost on the greens made it difficult to judge the speed of putts required.

I think the foxes might have read the email as they kept a low profile! I can’t say that for the magpies!

One of my favourite views on the course on Wednesday was of the crane at the back of the ninth green. Its elegance as a piece of moving sculpture is mesmerising.

I wonder if, when you were playing, any of you noticed the garden towards the back of the fifteenth tee. It had become completely overgrown and covered with leaves and now after an onslaught by three fearless gardeners (Tracey R, Sue N and myself), it can be seen again.

After that session, as we left the Club, we saw the last supermoon until October next year. It was called the Beaver moon, a creature that we do not yet have on the golf course but as some are kept not far away……..

The golfing week had started well with another closely fought match for the Pearson Team on Monday, November 18th.  Playing Hendon at home, they won 3 – 2. Great result for the Team! Well done Tracey R, Sharon, Nikki, Sue N and Sarah R!

Next week on Wednesday, November 27th is our End of Season Alliance, followed by a late lunch and prize-giving in the restaurant. The draw for teams of three, best two Stableford scores to count, will be on the Monday before. There will be a two-tee start.  Please sign up for the comp by Sunday, November 24th, and for the lunch by Saturday. If you are unable to attend the lunch, that’s fine – just let me know. If you are not playing but want to come to the lunch, that’s fine too, but please sign up now or message me personally.

The week after, on Wednesday, December 4th is a Greensomes for which you can sign up in pairs.

Raffle tickets for the Christmas Fayre are available right up until 12 pm on Thursday, November 28th so you are not too late to buy some. Amanda Lawson can give you information for a bank transfer; and you can pay on your bar card or give cash to Nikki.  We have some amazing prizes including a Taylor Made golf bag, donated by the Captain of Royal Cromer Golf Club; a wonderful Christmas hamper plus other hampers; M&S vouchers; vouchers from Supple Feet, Norman’s the Butchers, and the Little Green Dragon; Sunday lunch for two at the Club; and many other prizes. A huge thank you so far for your generosity in buying tickets (and for providing prizes!). Nightingale Cancer Support Centre is a wonderful local charity. Someone from Nightingale will be there on the day to answer any questions you may have.

Don’t forget to sign up for the Women’s Christmas meal on Thursday, December 5th, 7 for 7.30pm. The meal choices are on the noticeboard. Do not miss this sociable, fun and festive evening. Dress is smart-casual.

If you want an opportunity to wear your Christmas jumper or festive outfit, then put the 13-hole Texas Scramble on December 18th in your diary.  Enjoy the treat of Sarah Carver’s mulled wine served at the hut with mince pies!

Please complete your Bar and Catering Survey, emailed by Stewart on Tuesday. This is an ideal opportunity to say what you feel about this essential aspect of the Club and will inform future planning.

As the putting has been so challenging recently, this week’s thought comes from the late Peter Dobereiner, a British Golf journalist: “Half of golf is fun; the other half is putting!”

Enjoy at least half your golfing – and practice your putting!
