A little dryer this week, though very different from one day to the next! We again had a good turnout of 34 entries this week for Winter League week 18.

Richard Jones-Penny was back on top of division one with a very creditable 40 points, beating last week’s winner Rob Sobers into second place, with another of the “Squidder’s” Ian “No Bacon” McNally taking the top spot in Division Two with 39 points. Congratulations to all.

Division One results (points)

Richard Jones-Penny (40)

Rob Sobers (34)

Asa Lowther (35)

Division Two results (points)

Ian McNally (39)

Martin Dunnett (35)

Varney (35)

The Winter League table is now online, and the top three have changed again this week with Asa Lowther now 2 points clear on 221 points from second placed Richard Jone-Penny on 219, and Rob Sobers now in 3rd with 217.

Sundays’ fourball draw saw 20 of us arrive to a completely white and frosty course, though actually quite warm. The format was a Texas scramble, and in second place was Bozhidar Aleksov, Jack Bidmead, Matthew Breen, and Martin Taylor with a net 59.

The winners with a net 57 were Andrew Harrington, Kilian Stenning, Danny, and I, helped along nicely with a super drive from Danny on 17 hitting the centre of the green, regretfully we had to settle for a birdie! Andrew and Killian Additionally won a four-ball voucher for Muswell Hill Golf Club.

On Friday night, I attended the first of the quiz league evenings, which was a great club event that was sold out, a good buffet meal was served in between rounds, and the event was very well organised, Thanks to quiz master John White and the staff for making it all run superbly - we’re certainly looking forward to the next one on February 28th to hopefully improve on our third place!

The next fourball draw is on Sunday, March 2nd - these are always a fun event for new and established members.

Danny and I are very much looking forward to playing our Captain and Pro Challenges, which will culminate with whichever pair manages to beat us by the biggest margin, being invited to play a rematch at Royal Cromer Golf Club. Please email Danny or me and we can book you in.

As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.

Happy Golfing.
