Another course closure for us this Wednesday. Disappointing but not surprising as the waterlogged ground has not had a chance to dry out in this cold, damp, very grey and rather miserable weather. Playing a Stableford would not have proved much fun but hopefully conditions will start to improve and we have many competitions to look forward to including another fun one next Wednesday, February 19th – the 5 Club Stableford Challenge! This involves taking out only five clubs on the course, one of which has to be your putter. You make the choice of what the other four clubs can be. The draw will be made on Monday, 17th.
Then on Wednesday, February 26th, we have a Medal; and on Wednesday, March 5th, it’s the Flag. The rules of this are already on IG if you have entered and will be included in your Monday email.
There is still time to put your name down for the Mixed Social Golf on Friday, February 28th in the afternoon. This is a fun occasion where you can socialise and enjoy Friday Club Nightl after if you choose.
The weather is scuppering our Winter Ladder somewhat but I am hoping that later in February and in March, we can get more matches played and there will be a friendly race to the top of each ladder by the end of March.
I have mentioned before that we plan to have a competitive fun event to celebrate our 130 Years. This will be on Friday, July 11th. If we have enough entrants we will have one competition in the morning, followed by a lunch and prize giving; and one in the afternoon, followed by a supper and prize giving. There may even be an evening disco. Please put this date in your diaries.
An email with the revised Handicap Divisions and Limits has recently gone out to all. If you still have any queries, please speak with one of the Committee or myself. The divisions and limits apply from March 1st, 2025 until reviewed next year.
To act as additional incentives this year, I am going to award four additional prizes, one for the woman in each division who has improved her handicap the most during the course of the summer season. I will take a list of all the handicaps on March 1st and on September 30th. Your division for this prize is based on the one you are in on March 1st, not the one you end up in on September 30th.
If you enjoy playing in competitions, please check out the Middlesex website as there are a number of Middlesex competitions that may interest you. Also many Clubs put on Open Days and this is a good opportunity to visit other courses, as is playing in the Triangular matches so please sign up for these (on the noticeboard in the locker room).
There are a number of loose items in the locker room, which have been hanging around for ages e.g., shoes, a bag etc. Please ensure that these are removed as soon as possible. All items should be stored in your locker or taken home. As Ruth has explained, these items will be taken to the dump or a charity shop if not collected in the next few days. Thank you.
A new edition of the Bush Telegraph will be out shortly. Please read this for more information about our wonderful Golf Club and the people in it.
If you enjoy having a dance there are still a few tickets left for the Valentine’s Disco on Friday. And if you need a laugh to cheer those dull, grey days, don’t forget the Comedy Night on March 14th.
Here’s a golf comedy gag from Bruce Lansky, an American poet, author and editor of children’s books: ‘Talking to a golf ball won’t do you any good. Unless you do it while your opponent is teeing off….!’
Useful tactic though this may be, it won’t endear you to your fellow players!
Let’s hope we are out on the course again soon.
