Friday afternoon's glorious sunshine brought out 24 players for the Mixed Social Golf, although the course had been closed for most of the week, we had 9 holes open, and finished with a drink in the bar afterwards. These events are great fun and well organised by Julie Rewiuk, catering for all abilities, and I would encourage all to come along especially as the warmer weather starts to arrive.
Some great scores again this week on a slowly drying course in Winter League 22, though still very wet in places, the overall winner beating Iain Lanario on countback was Steve Ballinger with 38 points, Graham Corr won Division 2 with 37. Congratulations to all. The final week of Winter League is this coming Saturday, so our final chance to move up the table.
Division One results (points)
Steve Ballinger (38)
Iain Lanario (38)
Chris Davison (35) lowest gross (75)
Division Two results (points)
Graham Corr (37)
Martin Taylor (36)
Andrew Gerrard (36)
Unfortunately, I missed the weekend's golf and the fourball draw on Sunday, so thanks to Iain for taking over in my absence. Nineteen players did take part, and the winners with a very creditable 86 points, was the fourball of Simon Lanario, Ted Rees, Jack Bidmead and James West. Well done all.
Friday night's Quiz was another success and unfortunately my Captain's committee team couldn’t improve on our previous third place. A great evening indeed and the final one will be on the March 28th so sign up if you haven’t already.
On Sunday afternoon, Hannah and I attended the fantastic sold out Music Recital at the Club, which was incredibly well organised by our Women's Captain Alison in aid of our Captain's Charity. Alison will give more details in her blog, and though still to be confirmed, she raised over £1000.
The Winter League table is now online, and the top three have stayed the same again this week with Rob Sobers still leading now on 229, James Chard now on 225, and Graeme Allen on 222. Can anyone catch Rob on the final round of the winter league?
Booking is now open on IG for Captain's Charity Day on May 5th. If anyone is able to donate any raffle prizes or premium lots for the charity auction, please do reach out. Whatever you can donate will be greatly received for a fantastic cause. More info to follow in due course.
There are a few tickets remaining for the Comedy Night on the March 14th, the last one was a great success. Get your tickets here.
A bit of a nag again. Please remember to repair pitch marks and divots - this helps enormously with the repair of the course and greens if done straight away. Also, as the hut is self-service on a Saturday for the time being, please leave it as you wish to find it - unfortunately it's becoming messier every week and if it can't be kept clean we will have to keep it closed.
As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.
Happy Golfing.
