Our Wednesday Ping 4BBB competition was a great day for Sarah Rees who got her first hole in one! Brilliant, Sarah! Very exciting!
There were some good scores but the winning one was 47 points for Angela Graham and Chris Mann.
Second were Una Kilgallon and Chris Robertson with 43 points. Then two teams had 42 with Sue Nugent and Margaret Herlihy gaining that third place over Lisa Martin and Wendy Goodman also with 42.
The winner of the 9-hole competition on Wednesday was Sally Minks with 20 points.
Well done to our winners, and to all those who played!
It was yet another beautiful Wednesday with cerulean blue sky, a few fluffy clouds and a breeze. The foxes were out sunning themselves, the crows were raiding every available trolley, the parakeets, with a screech and a flash of lime green, were darting across the fairways, and the geese were less noisy…..but distracting! Oh dear!
The week had started with my Away Day on Monday to Porters Park near Radlett. The course looked stunning with its rollercoaster fairways and ever present deep ditch, which is designed to catch the rookie player on nearly every hole! Thirty-two of us turned up on yet another beautiful day, and after some delicious Club made pastries, the first team set off at 11am. The weather stayed fine apart from a few, sudden, short, sharp showers but we were spared the lightning, with just a distant rumble of thunder to be heard in the distance.
There was no Division 2+ winner for the nearest the pin on the 9th; but Lesley Avent won the Division 1 NTP on the 14th.
The day’s winning team with a superb 98 points (two best scores) were Tracey Ripsher, Janet Connor, Helen Savage, and Jane Majer. Close behind with 97 points were Louise Fickling, Ros Margey, Wendy Goodman, and Clare Laycock; then Lisa Martin, Ruth Golding, Ozlem Orgen, and Kate Malleson with 94 points. Congratulations to all winners and my thanks to all players who came to support my Away Day. [Our thoughts and love are with Mary Kemal who had a really distressing accident after only a few holes.]
On the day before, our 5-a-aide team had faced a tough match against Grims Dyke, which they unfortunately lost but our Team Captain, Lucy Bidmead managed to win her match. Good luck for their next match against North Middlesex on May 25th!

This week I had to finish with a quote about a hole in one. It comes from Mac O’Grady, an American professional golfer who was known for his eccentric behaviour and brash statements but I think this statement is quite thoughtful: ‘A hole in one is amazing when you think of the different universes this white mass of molecules has to pass through on its way to the hole.’
Keep striking your white mass of molecules! May the force be with you! It could be you with a hole in one next!
