It was quite a day for our Club Captain’s Prize for Women on Wednesday, June 18th! The weather was outstanding and some of the golf was top class!
Guy made an early start for us, coming to the first tee to see off eight groups of women from 7:4am; the remaining seven groups went off the 8th. Then he was in the hut offering refreshments including alcohol for the hard core, hot weather drinkers; and delicious Krispy Kreme doughnuts for those needing a sugar boost.
Nearest the Pin:
1st hole Liz Tolton
5th hole Carol Dodd
7th hole Ozlem Orgen
13th hole Chris Mann
15th hole Angela Graham
16th hole Sue Nugent
Nearest the pin in 2 on the 4th: Umar Annaradnam
All received a sleeve of balls.
The winning scores for the Stableford competition were all in the 40’s:
1st Ozlem Orgen 46 points
2nd Una Kilgallon 46 points (beaten on count back!)
3rd Shanta Balram 41 points
4th Louise Fickling 40 points - Just beating Billie Newland on countback also with 40 points.
Guy presented a ‘wooden spoon’ prize to Jane Majer who will be delighted to have won a half hour golf lesson with Danny. (Who cares about the score for that?!)
Guy presented all the winners with very generous prizes and there were huge smiles all round. Congratulations to all the winners. Amazing scores!
And a huge thank you to Guy for organising and presenting such a wonderful day for the Women’s Section!
There were also four who scored a two: Nikki Chodurek, Janet Connor, Carol Dodd and Liz Tolton. Well done!
The week had started well for the Club as we won both the Women’s and the Men’s Luther Smith Cups after the two medal rounds, the second one being on Saturday, June 14th. Lesley Avent won for the Women and Oz Hassan won for the men, each scoring 142 for the combined rounds. Well done Bush Hill Park Golf Club!
Then on Sunday, June 15th, 8 pairs of women played the George Low 4BBB. Ozlem Orgen and Umar Annaradnam were the winning team with a great score of 45 points; and second were Carol Dodd and Chris Mann with 42 points.
This Sunday, we have our next 5-a-side match at home against Pinner. Good luck team!
Next Wednesday is the Pro’s Prize and June Stableford; followed by the July Stableford on Wednesday, July 2nd, which is just after my away trip to Whittlebury Hall; and then the Kay Steel Trophy on July 9th, which is also the July Medal.
There are 9-hole competitions on the Wednesdays of July 2nd and July 9th; and alternate competitions on the Sundays of June 25th (June Stableford), June 29th (July Stableford) and July 6th (Kay Steel and July medal).
On Friday July 11th, we have our 130 Years Celebration and are still hoping for more entries. If you do not have a team of four, please see Danny. Don’t forget, you can invite a guest. The cost is £25 a head for the meal, prizes and disco in the evening, and a Friday evening menu available if you are not having the Celebration meal.
Then I want to see a big turn out for my Women’s Captain’s Charity Day on July 16th. Sign up will open soon. Teams of four will be drawn for 13 holes of fun and challenges. All Divisions and Academy Year 2 women can play.
Speaking of our charity, The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, you may be interested to know that the Night Hike, in which a number of us participated on May 16th, raised £116,168 – the highest amount for a Nightingale night hike ever! Thank you to all those who walked, and to those who sponsored us.
Next Friday, to help with further fund-raising, we have a team of four, representing BHPGC, participating in The Nightingale Golf Charity Day at Crews Hill - Iain Lanario, Lee Robinson, Sharon Saunders, and myself.
For those of you who may be wondering, my daughter, Alex, successfully completed the London to Brighton bike ride on Sunday – even managing to ride up the very steep hill towards the end that is Ditchling Beacon. She has gone from 0, and having no bike, to cycling 54 miles in 6 hours 53 minutes (including breaks!), in three months! Thanks to Gaye Illsley who helped with her training. And well done, Alex! Such an achievement! Alex has raised £1,205 so far for the British Heart Foundation. Her JustGiving web page is still open via the green circle on her WhatsApp pic if anyone wishes to donate. Many thanks to those who already have.
A final plug for the Mixed Midsummer Madness competition on Friday morning with prizes and a lunch after. If you are interested and want to play, please let John White know.
And on Saturday, it’s the Club Captain’s White Night Summer Party. If you fancy listening to a jazz singer and then The Jars, there are still £20 tickets available for the entertainment.
I’ll finish with a quote from the American Swedish golfer, Anika Sorenstam, considered to be one of the best female golfers ever: ‘I push myself to be the best I can be. I don’t worry about what other people are doing, and I don’t think about things I can’t control.’
Wise words for the golf course!
Enjoy your sunny June golfing!
