Superb scores! Tremendously well done, and sympathies to those who missed out on countback.
There were also four who scored a two: Janet Connor, Kathleen Hall, Ozlem Orgen and Helen Savage, who scored 2 x 2’s. Well done all!
Our 5-a-side team played well on Sunday, June 22nd. Although minus many of the usual players, they had a close result, only just losing 3-2 to Pinner Hill. Well done to Lisa Martin, Cela Selley, Sue Nugent, Ozlem Orgen, and Sue Evans!
This Friday, we have a team of four, representing BHPGC, participating in The Nightingale Golf Charity Day at Crews Hill - Iain Lanario, Lee Robinson, Sharon Saunders, and myself.
Next Wednesday on Wednesday, July 2nd, which is just after my away trip to Whittlebury Hall, is the July Stableford; and then there is the Kay Steel Trophy on July 9th, which is also the July Medal.
There are 9-hole comps on the Wednesdays of July 2nd and July 9th; and alternate competitions on the Sundays of 29 June (July Stableford) and July 6th (Kay Steel and July medal).
On Friday July 11th, it’s our 130 Years Celebration and we are still hoping for more entries. If you do not have a team of four, but want to play, please see Danny. Don’t forget, you can invite a guest. The cost is £25 a head for the meal, prizes and disco in the evening; and a Friday evening menu available if you are not having the Celebration meal.
I would like to see big numbers for my Women’s Captain’s Charity Day on July 16th so we can raise more funds for our Captain’s Charity, The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre. Sign up will open soon. Teams of four will be drawn for 13 holes of fun and challenges. All Divisions and Academy Year 2 women can play.
Guy’s Summer White Night Party was a great success on Saturday, June 21st. The weather was incredible and to find ourselves able to sit out on the patio at midnight without shivering was just wonderful. The band (The Jars) were great, but it was only towards the end of the night that people came in to dance. It had been just too gorgeous outside.
The day before, a few women had joined in the Midsummer Madness competition organised by John White, followed by a meal which was all good fun.
Just a reminder about the classes being run in our partnership Nuffield Health Enfield. These are a wonderful opportunity for us all to improve our mental health and body strength, where the trainers come to our Golf Club and we can participate for free. As well as Stretch on the Green every Tuesday at 9:30am, and other classes, there are two new ones starting next week: Bootcamp at 9:30am, starting on Monday, June 30th; and Sunrise yoga at 6.45 a.m. starting on Tuesday, July 1st. For a full list of the classes and more details, please click here.
This is the last blog for June. I know June has only thirty days, but it has passed so quickly that it has felt more like twenty. I’ll leave you with a little June ditty, written by the American writer and poet, Nathaniel Parker Willis (1806 – 1867):
‘It is the month of June, The month of leaves and roses, When pleasant sights salute the eyes, And pleasant scents the noses.’
(I found that a little ironic on Wednesday as what the groundstaff had used on the course earlier in the day smelled the opposite of pleasant!)
This scent is likely from a seaweed product recently applied called Sea Nymph Super Concentrate - a natural extract sourced from the pristine waters of Galway Bay and renowned as some of the finest seaweed by our Course Manager Leigh. It's packed with nutrients that help keep our greens lush and healthy, improve stress tolerance, and encourage consistent growth - particularly during periods of heat and stress pressure.
Happy golfing!
