Rain at last for our parched grass but a shame that it fell so consistently on our Wednesday morning July Stableford competition. There was already a depleted field as many of us were recovering after a hot and exhausting three-day away trip. In the end 21 played in the 18-hole competition; and seven played in the 9-hole.
Results:
Div 1
1st Louise Fickling 42 points
2nd Nikki Chodurek 41 points
Div 2
1st Shanta Balram 38 points
2nd Carol Agass 36 points
Div 3
Sally Minks 33 points
There was only one two scored by Lesley Avent on the 15th.
For the 9-hole competition, the first was Janet Beacham with 29 points and second with 17 points was Nicola Zaninetti.
Well done to the winners and all players for persevering in the unaccustomed rain!
On Sunday, is our next 5-a-side match at home to Hampstead. Good luck to Lucy, Lesley, Tracey, Sharon, and Lisa!
Next Wednesday, on July 9th, it is the Kay Steel Trophy/July Medal, followed by the 9-hole competition; and an alternate competition on the Sunday of July 6th for the Kay Steel/July medal.
You will have received an email recently with details of our 130 Years Celebration on Friday, July 11th. We have a great entry so far - currently 126 players. The afternoon session is now full, but we could do with more entries in the morning. If you do not have a team of four, but want to play, please see Danny. Don’t forget, you can invite a guest. The cost is £25 a head for the meal, prizes, and disco in the evening; and a Friday evening menu available if you are not in the competition.
On Sunday, July 13th, we are hosting a friendly mixed competition with Enfield, followed by food. If you would like to play, please message our Club Captain, Guy Croton.
Sign up has just opened for my Women’s Captain’s Charity Day on July 16th, an opportunity to raise more funds for our Captain’s Charity, The Nightingale Cancer Support Centre. Teams of four will be drawn for 13 holes of fun and challenges. It is open to all Divisions and Academy Year 2 women. It’s a great opportunity to meet other members of the Women’s Section and play your part in supporting the Charity. An email has gone out but just to remind you that it is traditional that everyone wins a prize for the day so please bring in a wrapped gift and leave it in the box provided in the Women’s locker room. It can be a bottle, toiletries, or something you didn’t want as a present but that someone else would like. There is also a raffle. The lunch is not included but I have booked the restaurant upstairs where we can order food and have the prize presentations. We will also have Peter Fairweather from the Charity to come and tell us a bit more about it.
On Friday, July 18th, we have the Past and Present Lady Captain’s Cup with a lunch after.
The following week on July 23rd will be my Captain’s Day. More details to follow.
The sign up in teams of four is open for our Women’s Invitation to Women from other clubs on Wednesday, August 6th. We have 50 so far but it would be good to expand the field of players. One guest per member player. If anyone needs help putting together a team, please speak with one of the Committee. The cost is £50 per pair.
You will have recently received an email from Sean and Umar (our Vice Captains) about the Gent’s Invitation to Women on Sunday, July 20th, and the Women’s Invitation to Gents on August 17th. Please put these dates in your diary. Entry is now open for July 20th, so please find a partner (not your husband) and enter as a team.
In spite of a few hiccups, 32 of us have just had a most enjoyable golf trip to Whittlebury Hall in Northamptonshire. The Red, Royal Whittlewood, 9-hole part of the course was a real challenge for all players, as was the heat for all three days. There was a welcome swimming pool for those who found the time to cool off and relax; and the food was really good. Some great memories and golfing friendships were made. Thank you all for your company and support.
I’ll finish with a few words from the Jamaican reggae musician, Bob Marley (only slightly misquoted!): ‘Sun is shining. Weather is sweet. Make you wanna move your ‘golfing’ feet!’
Happy, sunny, summer golfing!
