On Thursday last week, Tim Corrick, Oz Hassan, and Steve Doherty played 36 holes in the searing heat contesting the Middlesex Coronation Challenge Bowl at Highgate Golf Club. They narrowly missed out on the win, coming second on countback - still a fantastic result, well done boys!

On Friday, we had a fantastic turn out for our 130th Year Celebrations, a full report of which you can enjoy reading in the next edition of the Bush Telegraph due out next month. To summarise the day though, our group tee’d off with the first shot of the day from 130 yards in front of a decorated backdrop to kick off the celebrations. We were once again very generously treated to some much needed refreshments courtesy of our brewery, who supplied the pop up bar and barrel of 1664 for the hut, for which we can’t thank them enough - it was a great touch on such a hot day.

We raised an extra £450 for our charity with Jack Bidmead spending the entire day manning the beat the pro challenge. A great effort Jack, and he tells me he didn’t lose too many times!

A repeat in the afternoon for the next wave of players and before the evening disco, Alison and I had the honour of presenting gifts from the club to two of our longest serving members of staff with a combined service of 60 years! Sonia and Leigh. Another very memorable day.

Saturday was the first of two rounds for the Handicap club Championship. Only nine players managed to better par so all to play for this weekend. Some great golf played with Boz Aleksov coming out on top with a nett 66, lowest gross was Chris Davison in fourth place with 72.

The results as follows:

HCP Club Champs (Nett)

Boz Aleksov (66)

Gary Hampshire (67)

Nigel Bidmead (67)

On Sunday we fielded a team of six mixed pairs for a friendly match vs Enfield at home, followed by a meal, and I’m pleased to say we won 5-1.

This coming Sunday, we have the Gent’s Invite to Women, which is the task of the Vice Captains to organise, with the return being the women’s invite to gents. Sean and Umar have done a great job so far, and I’m looking forward it.

A bit of housekeeping; when you enter a card for handicap purposes, please try your best to make the scores or strokes as legible as possible, every effort will be made to decipher them, but they will be voided if they are too difficult to read.

Please remember to shut the gates as you navigate your way around the course either by foot or buggy, this will hopefully deter pedestrians wandering through the field of play.

Danny and I are very much looking forward to playing our Captain and pro Challenges, which will culminate with which ever pair manages to beat us by the biggest margin, being invited to play a rematch at Royal Cromer Golf Club, please email Danny or myself and we can book you in.

As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.

Happy Golfing.

Club Captain
