On Sunday, we had the Lambert Trophy, which is the last mixed board competition of the season, and was won by Club President Iain Lanario and Cela Selley, beating Christine and Paul Robertson on countback with 41 points. A most enjoyable day, finished off with a meal in the restaurant. Highlight/low point of my round in the competition was teeing off on the second into the trees, and holeing the ball in the first hole!
It’s been quite a busy social side this week too, with fish and chips on Friday, a furry member’s birthday party on Saturday, and concluded with the mixed competition on Sunday, all super fun and ticking off some more firsts as Captain!
The Rangers had a clean sweep at Chigwell winning 8-0! They also brought home the Peter Wafford Trophy on Monday 18th August. For those of you who don’t know, Peter Wafford donated the trophy after achieving the extraordinary feat of hitting 2 holes in one in the same round at Chigwell golf course when playing in a Rangers match. The odds of achieving this feat are 67 million to 1! The trophy is awarded to the team winning the most matches across the two fixtures.
Danny and I played a Captain and Pro match against past captain’s Lucy Bidmead and Jon Copley, beating them 2 and 1. A very close match indeed, and at one point looking like it could end in an honourable draw. We are looking forward to the next ones booked in.
There is still time to enter the Martin Dench Texas Scramble on Monday, which is followed by the Wilson Putting Vase. Our Pro Am is fast approaching on Friday, September 5th, so if you would like to enter a team do let us know.
Bit of housekeeping, please remember to remove your name from the tee sheet as soon as you know you can’t play, Saturday’s competition tee sheet must not be blocked out with people’s names who are not or were never playing. We are seeing a lot of three balls where there are four players on the sheet on a regular basis.
Please remember to shut the gates as you navigate your way around the course either by foot or buggy, this will hopefully deter pedestrians wandering through the field of play.
Danny and I are very much looking forward to playing our Captain and pro Challenges, which will culminate with which ever pair manages to beat us by the biggest margin, being invited to play a rematch at Royal Cromer Golf Club, please email Danny or myself and we can book you in.
As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.
