Captain’s Blog, 11th September 2025

This week’s blog is one of three to go. Another fun golfing week - Friday’s Pro Am was a great success and was won by Team Nugent, who had a fabulous round!

Saturday's President’s Day Stableford was yet another very enjoyable day of golf at the Club. The weather was perfect although the gusting winds brought a tough challenge.

Of the 91 players who entered the competition, only eight equalled or bettered their handicap, with last year’s President, David R Morris coming out on top with a fabulous 40 points!!

Congratulations, David - a worthy winner.

2nd place: James Wilson - 39 points
3rd Place: Varnavas Christofi - 38 points
Nearest the pin on 13th - Dave Boss
Nearest the pin in 2 on the 4th - Ed Sobers

I had the pleasure of serving drinks and snacks to all at the hut by the 13th tee.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the Captain’s wife, Hannah Croton, for all her help on the day, making sure it ran so smoothly.

Then we moved to the evening. 100 of us dined alfresco with delicious pizza made by 450 degrees company and then onto the disco, dancing late into the night.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who helped make the evening possible. With special thanks to my Events Commander in Chief Simon Lanario, Captain Guy Croton, Party Planner Extraordinaire Debbie Sanders, and my ever supportive wife Beth, and obviously and most importantly to all of those who turned up to support the event.

The evening was a great success enjoyed by all.

Thanks for all your support

After Saturday’s partying we had my last fourball draw as club captain. Thirty-two of us had a buffet breakfast in the restaurant and we then teed off at the slightly later time of 9am.

The winners with a fantastic score of 81 points were Peter Wafford, Andrew Garrad, Jonathan Hayes and James West winning a fourball voucher and beating second place with 79 points myself, Danny, Matt Hunt, and Ben Ward-Cochrane.

A special thank you to Danny for donating a range finder as the nearest the pin prize on the 16th, which was won by Warren Price. A most enjoyable morning all round.

Bit of housekeeping, please remember to remove your name from the tee sheet as soon as you know you can’t play, Saturday’s competition tee sheet must not be blocked out with people’s names who are not or were never playing. We are seeing a lot of three balls where there are four players on the sheet on a regular basis.

Please remember to shut the gates as you navigate your way around the course either by foot or buggy, this will hopefully deter pedestrians wandering through the field of play.

Danny and I are very much looking forward to playing our Captain and pro Challenges, which will culminate with which ever pair manages to beat us by the biggest margin, being invited to play a rematch at Royal Cromer Golf Club, please email Danny or myself and we can book you in.

As we are now underway for the season, a reminder that the 13th is the Captain’s Charity Hazard. If you go into the water then a donation into any of the buckets around the clubhouse will be gratefully received, if like me that does happen a little too often! Then an idea to see you through the year could be a one-off donation via the JustGiving Page of £10.
