On Friday the Clubhouse was heaving with members waiting to collect the prizes from last season’s competitions.

Presiding over the event were last year’s Captains Guy and Alison and the competition organisers Jon and Helen.

A great Oriental Buffet was served by Roy and the team in the Ridings restaurant followed by the actual presentation and trophies in the main bar. Although too many winners to mention, (look out for the photos on the Club’s social media platforms) a special mention should go to Chris Robertson for winning the Women’s Section Foursomes Salver some 46 years after first claiming the title in 1979. Well done, Chris.

Sixty-two players entered the Winter League on Saturday with only four players bettering their handicaps. There may be an excuse as some players were worse for wear after Friday night’s celebrations (you know who you are)! We should be able to view the running totals/ league table next week now we have had six weekends of entry to the Winter League (but not available at time of writing).

The results from Saturday were as follows:

Division 1

1st) Matt Bowen 39 points
2nd) James Severn 38 points
3rd) John Stolliday 36 Points

Division 2

1st) Kilian Stelling 38 points
2nd) Kieran Costello 37 points
3rd) Ian McNally 33 points

Three two’s were scored Sunday:

1st) Stephen O’Neill 31 Points

Also on Sunday, thirty-three members played in the monthly Captain’s Four Ball draw with a voucher up for grabs at West Middlesex Golf Club. The numbers attending were again impressive and I’d like to thank all entrants for their continued support, donations to Noah’s Ark, and I hope you all enjoyed the morning’s golf. A best two from three format was played and the winners claiming the voucher were John Bayer, Len Palmer, and Martyn Lainchbury with 78 points.

Next month’s draw on December 7th is the annual Turkey Trot where Butcher’s vouchers will be offered as prizes - I’ll remind players nearer the time of details. Traditionally golf is followed by Sunday Lunch, and I’d encourage members to book for the first arranged festive lunch of the Christmas period.

The parking space that would normally be allocated to the Immediate Past Captain has become available this year, as the Past Captain is currently serving as President. As a result, this space will be available for use until next September / the next AGM (2026). We invite members who are interested in having use of the space to submit their bids, with proceeds going to this year's Captain's Charity - Noah's Ark Children's Hospice. Please send your bids by November 30th to michelle@bhpgc.com. The highest bidder will be allocated the space for the duration stated above.

There was a little confusion on my last message about Beaujolais Day competition, which is on 20th November. It is an individual entry with drawn teams and kindly arranged by John Bottoms. It is a fun day; shotgun start followed by wine and lunch and can be entered on the IG app.

That’s all folks so happy golfing till next week, and steer clear of the leaves for a competitive score.
