Our first qualifying comp of the year, the March Stableford, took place on 12 March with a field of 27 women from 3 Divisions (13 in Div 1; 11 in Div 2; and 3 in Div 3). We had almost 4 seasons in one day with a short, sharp, sleet shower thrown in with the sunshine and grey skies, the warmth and the chill.

It could have been worse these last few months – only the fifth Wednesday course closure since October! Unfortunately, the ground has just not had the chance to dry out so let’s hope that March brings those drying breezes but not necessarily ‘loud and shrill’ and I’m looking forward to the ‘dancing daffodil!'

A dry, sunny morning for our competition this week was a happy contrast to last Wednesday’s miserable, grey skies when the course had been closed after rather a lot of rain. Thirty-two women, keen to prove they could score on the course in a Stableford with only five clubs in their bag, took to the fairways on Wednesday, February 19th.

On Wednesday morning, the mist hung low over frosty greens until the sunshine came out to burn it away, leaving sparkling dew drops of water everywhere. The Egyptian geese were promenading round the lake and flashes of green parakeet could be seen in the bare trees, heralded by their distinctive squawks
