Women's Captain's Blog, 28th March 2024

The Captain’s blog this week starts with the epic team clash of the Women’s Captain vs Vice that took place last Friday and what a turn out.  The sun shone as 47 golfers, including some of the Year 2 Women Academy members, battled it out playing Greensomes over 13 holes. 55 of us then enjoyed a well-deserved lunch.

The end result was an honourable draw. I must also mention the pair with the highest Stableford score of the day was Alex Towndrow and Shanta Balram with 28 points. Well played.

And a big thank you to Mahan Janczur who treated us to fizz and cake to celebrate her 60th birthday. It was a very enjoyable day and thank you all for your support in making the event such a success.

I was back at the club that evening to take part in the last of the Quiz nights. John White and his team did a wonderful job of putting our knowledge to the test. The Captains’ table were chuffed to improve on our last outing in coming second to last. We may have done better had I known the difference between Trumpton and Camberwick Green.

Last Sunday was the first of the mixed competitions - the Brasted Trophy. Thanks to Mark Stevens and Janet Connor for organising a hugely enjoyable afternoon and evening. Congratulations to the winners, Iain Lanario and Margaret Herlihy.

The next mixed event, the Spring Trophy, takes place on Sunday 14th April. Sign up is open on IG and if you need a partner get in touch with Mark.

On Monday, for the first Pearson match of 2024, we had home advantage against Sudbury. We lost to them at their club at the end of last year, so we really needed a win and the team didn’t disappoint. Alison Towndrow, the non-playing Captain, led the team to a 5-2 victory.

Some matches were close - Ruth Goulding won hers on the 19th. Great result ladies.

On Wednesday we played a qualifying Stableford. The conditions were challenging but not for Tracy Concadoro who scored a superb 35 points. She was closely followed by Sue Nugent with 34. Well done to everyone who played.

Next Wednesday is the Golf Foundation ‘Make Your Mark’ Stableford followed by the Australian Spoons competition on April 10th for which you will need a partner - the handicap index limit for the event is 15-54.

FUTURE EVENTS
I am organising a secondhand golf sale on Saturday 20th April. It will be held in the club foyer from around 11am.  If you have any golfing items you would like to donate (NO golf clubs please) you can get in touch with me. It will be a cash only sale. All proceeds will go to the Captains’ charity, the Isabel Hospice.

And finally, I am very excited that we have another Line Dancing evening booked. It is on Saturday 1st June with Angie from The Saddle Bags. Dust off those cowboy boots and head down to the Bush Hill Park Saloon for a fun night. I am itching to try out my new footwear.

I hope you enjoy the coming week and see you soon.
