Last Sunday, our First Team hosted Theydon Bois GC in the 1st round of the Thornton Cup. Despite narrowly losing the match 8 ½  - 6 ½, the entire team put in a tremendous shift and special acknowledgement and praise goes to all those who played.  I would also like to specifically thank our skipper, Graeme Allen who organised the team selection as well as Matt Paton, who kindly provided our 1st Team with shirts, tops and Caps. I look forward to reporting on the Team’s progress in their other upcoming matches, later in the year.

On the domestic playing front, Rafferty Cup week one qualifier was contested on Saturday in what can only be describes as extremely difficult playing conditions. Your's truly, managed to card the best score in division one with a net 73, while Richard Kemish and Graham Dickens both carded net 71’s in Division 2. The top eight, in each division qualified for the knockout phase of The Rafferty Cup and there will be another chance for a further 16 to make qualification next Saturday, prior to the random knockout stage draw being made.

Steve Doherty and Varney were the latest pair to take up the Captain Pro Challenge on Tuesday.  Thanks mainly to a fantastic display of golf by Danny, which included five birdies on the front nine, we came out winners by 3 & 2, however in reality the match was a lot tighter than the result suggests. Despite the miserable weather on the day, the match was highly enjoyable and details of a very limited number of available Captain Pro challenge spots are still open to book by visiting the Pro Shop.

We are now fast approaching my Captain’s Charity Day on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6th. The event is open to teams of four consisting of men, women or a mixture of both and is open to both members or visitors - they need to have a current WHS handicap. Entry and further details can be made by clicking here, alternatively if you are looking for playing partners, please contact myself or Danny and we will do our best to make up a fourball for you.

We are still looking for prizes for our raffle draw, so if you have anything that you think that may be suitable, please contact the office.

In addition to the raffle, we will also be holding a special auction, specifically offering some of the higher profile items that have been kindly donated. These items include Arsenal and Spurs signed memorabilia, match tickets for two at a Spurs fixture, a Fourball at Cromer GC including an overnight stay and a VIP parking spot at BHPGC. A communication will be sent out in the next week or two, detailing these items and there will be an opportunity to make a sealed bid, prior to Charity Day itself, where the items will be finally sold.

Finally, our Women’s Captain, Lucy Bidmead is organising a second-hand golf sale, which is taking place at the club on Saturday 20th April from about 11am in the Clubhouse foyer. If you have any donations (excluding clubs) please contact Lucy. It will be a cash only sale and all proceeds will go to the Captains’ charity, Isabel Hospice.

Have a good week.

Jon Copley
Club Captain
