This past Saturday was the 1st round of the Men’s Handicap Club Championship.
The course was in immaculate condition, with the “Turfing Iron” (correct name for the machine that gets the greens smoother, flatter & somewhat quicker) being used to get the already quick greens, up to Championship pace. And those quick greens certainly made a difference to the scoring.
Of the 89 competitors entered into the competition, only 7 equalled or bettered their handicap.

On a warm but slightly grey summers weekend, this past Saturday & Sunday was the July Stableford.
With the course in pristine condition, the scoring was once again exceptional.
We had 101 entrants, of those, 37 players surpassed or equalled their handicap.
“I wonder what rough percentage that is? “ In Division 2, 3 players had superb scores of 43 points, all separated by count back.

This past weekend it was the July medal.
Once more the weather stayed fair & the course was in immaculate condition.
If you managed to play over the last week you cannot have failed to notice how good the greens were. Head Greenskeeper Graham Careford has managed to get a trial of a new machine that gets the greens smoother, flatter & yes, somewhat quicker, that take our already good greens to the next level. And by the look of the scoring over the weekend, a lot of members really enjoyed the way the greens played. There were some fantastic scores out there, not least from Rob Collett in Division 1 shooting a level par gross score 70 off of a handicap of 9 giving him a net 61. And Denis Pyatt in Division 2 with a gross 78 off of a 15 handicap giving him a net 63.

What a fantastic week of golf that was!
On Wednesday 23rd June, I had the honour of hosting Captain’s Day for Women. It was a beautiful sunny day , where I acted as starter on the 1st tee and then returned later in the day for drinks and prize giving outside on the terrace.
The winners are all listed in the Women’s Captain’s blog from last week, but I would like to say a special thank you to Lisa Martin, Lucy Bidmead & Lesley Avent for organising the event & getting all the scores in so promptly.
